Memento Mori

Through abstract and physical representations of the fragmented body, the sculptures of Memento Mori are a response to our basic human experience of living in a fragile body. Themes of impermanence and transformation run throughout the work.

I explore these themes with a reverence for all that our bodies endure physically, emotionally and spiritually. Using stained linens, X-ray imagery and stitching speak to our corporeality with an awareness we are all poised on the edge of existence.

Memento Mori translated from the Latin "remember you are mortal" is meant as a prayer, a remembrance, a conveyance of grief and mourning.
