Going Home

Going Home is a reflection on childhood, nostalgia and family. The installation consists of the wooden dollhouse my father made for me and my 4 siblings when we were quite young. Growing up, I remember redecorating and playing with it for hours on end. The 1960’s plastic furniture we played with is the basis for each work.

I created individual vignettes on mirrors complete with crocheted frames for each piece of furniture. I taught myself to crochet for this project as an homage to my grandmothers, both of whom were accomplished ladies of "needle arts."

Strange how cheap plastic dollhouse furniture takes on the form of an almost sacred object. The work serves as a joyful reminder of play, siblings and childhood.
