Sanctuary
Where can you find some moment of peace? This body of work is inspired by time spent in an amazing Romanesque-Early Gothic church in Salzburg, Austria. The spare, soaring arches felt like giant trees reaching the sky. The architecture of this unique place filled me with wonder, quiet peace and refuge from the outside world. Over my years of visiting family in Salzburg, I returned again and again to this unusual place to nourish my heart and soul.
Through the installation of sewn silk organza panels collaged with hand-painted and collected fabrics, lace and woodcut images of stars and crows, I have tried to create the feeling of the Franzis Kanner church that lives on in my memory.
